Stage 3: Loarre - Biel

THIS STAGE RUNNING THROUGH REINO DE LOS MALLOS OFFERS THE OPPORTUNITY OF PASSING UNDER THE HUGE CONGLOMERATE NEEDLES OF MALLOS DE RIGLOS, PEÑA RUEBA AND MALLOS DE AGUERO. THE ROUTE VISITS THESE OVERWHELMING ROCKY LANDSCAPES BEFORE GOING DEEP INTO THE PRIVILEGED SANTO DOMINGO MOUNTAIN RANGE TOWARDS THE MEDIEVAL TOWN OF BIEL.

Stage 3 departs from Loarre heading towards the small village of Santa Engracia de Loarre connected by unpaved and local roads to Linás de Marcuello, where the ruins of Marcuello Castle are located. After passing by the cliffs and needles known as Os Fils, we’ll get to Riglos, a picturesque village placed below the spectacular Mallos de Riglos, an overwhelming and vertical place often visited by climbers and big birds of prey.

Leaving Riglos behind, the track descends sharply (be careful) by Camino Natural de la Hoya to the Gallego River footbridge having amazing views of the conglomerate walls and the river valley. Last section of the descent is a short singletrack ending with a flight of stairs. Variant 1 avoids this technical descend heading to Murillo by road.

From Gállego River footbridge the route climbs up to the picturesque village of Murillo de Gállego, an important white-water sports center, where another path connects with Agüero’s paved road. At the end of the ascend there are some good spots to take pics of the lovely village of Agüero and its mallos.

Beyond Agüero, in the southern side of Sierra de Santo Domingo lies a vaste uninhabited extension of pine forests. A long unpaved road with continuous ups-and-downs heads towards the picturesque village of San Felices, the only semi-inhabited place in this valley.

The unpaved road ends close to the nice village of Fuencalderas, at short distance (6 km) from Biel by a quiet local road. Biel, dominated by an ancient tower, is a monumental village coming from the Middle Ages.

Stunning walls of rock, picturesque villages and lonely valleys. Undoubtedly, this stage will not be easy to forget.
