Stage 1: Uncastillo - Luesia

Today we will discover the extraordinary and monumental territory of Cinco Villas, where the first three stages of this spectacular tour take place. Today we will enjoy some of the wonderful landscapes that will be around during the first three stages, as well as some of the most representative monumental heritage of this land.

The stage starts in the medieval village of Uncastillo, where in addition to its well-preserved medieval urban structure stand out its five monumental churches as well as its castle. Then, we will head towards Olid ravine through a series of beautiful paths running between forests and fields that following the course of small streams will let us discover the fantastic and rich variety of species in this territory. After ascending a small col, we will descend through a path towards the uninhabited Arba River Mill. Once we have crossed Luesia River, we will follow a gravel road to the monumental town of Luesia, the end of our stage, where we can visit its excellent Castle (SX-XI) and the Romanesque churches of San Salvador (S.XI- XIII) and San Esteban.

Type of itinerary: One-way trail
Estimated time: 3 h
Distance: 11,3 km
Surface: Unpaved road, path
Elevation: 470 m
Physical difficulty: Low
Technical difficulty: Intermediate

This stage is short and has not steep climbs and technical difficulties. However, it is necessary to consider that the only available sources of water are in the towns of Uncastillo and Luesia, so we will not be able to take water on the way.

We must pay attention to the white marks and indicative posts that will guide us during the stage. Sometimes they can go unnoticed, especially in the areas where the path runs next to the crops.

At a certain moment, we will be forced to cross Luesia River. During spring and autumn, we may have to take off our shoes.
