EARTH

To find the first element, EARTH, you have to go to Villa de Naval and learn the secrets of the workshops of clay artisans.

How is a vase made? And house roof tiles? If you want to find out you need to visit the Pottery Centre (“Centro de Alfarería”). They will give you the answers you seek.

And that’s not the end of it. Then you will visit the natural salt flats at Salinar de la Rolda. There you will learn how the salt we eat is obtained. Then we will invite you to bathe in salty water!! Did you know you can easily float in these salt flats with hardly any effort? Magic? You will have to find out for yourself.

If you overcome the bathing challenge, you will get your first prize!

After leaving Naval, we will take you on a road full of wine. Not bottles of wine, but grapevines!  Let’s see if you can count them all...it’s an almost impossible mission. Do you know why? Because you are in a land famous for its Somontano wine and grapevines have been grown here for ages to make this wine.

And to conclude the EARTH day, we will visit the mill known as Torno de Buera where our ancestors made olive oil. You can take a walk nearby and visit the Somontano olive tree forest (“Bosque de los Olivos”), the Santa María de Dulcis shrine and the ice well. And you will see what an ancient fridge looks like.

If you have obtained EARTH, you will have learnt the earth is farmed by man to grow food and also shaped into pottery.

FIRE

Are you ready get FIRE without burning? If so, you have to go to the Prehistoric Centre of Colungo (“Centro Prehistórico de Colungo”) in the Rio Vero Cultural Park. You will see some of the most ancient landmarks of our ancestors.

There you have to overcome the fun challenge of the prehistoric technology workshops and find the second element.

Once you have overcome the challenge and obtained fire, our guide will show you the caves and coves in the rock where our great-great-great grandparents or the first dwellers of this land lived.

Did you know the rocky walls of the Vero river served as shelter for prehistoric men and fire was their best protection?

Did you know they liked graffiti and drawing animal and plants in the caves? You will discover this and much more with our guided tour to the caves of the Rio Vero Cultural Park.

WATER

You have already seen that finding WATER in Guara is going to be quite easy. In Sierra de Guara we are surrounded by canyons and rivers such as the Alcanadre, Cinca, Mascún or Vero.

But to find the best water, first you have to dive into the purest water, born in the heart of Guara and flowing through upwellings and canyons before reaching rivers.

For this reason, we are going to challenge you to go down the Sierra de Guara canyon to get your precious treasure.

Our guides will take you and your family deep inside Guara and with your wetsuit and mountaineering boots you will have to dive into one of our family friendly canyons. You can choose between many options, such as “la Surgencia del Mascún” in Rodellar or “la Fuente de la Tamara” in Morrano.

If you have overcome the challenge and obtained WATER, you will have experienced the force of nature. An almighty power that shapes everything and gives life.

AIR

To find the last element you will have to feel the force of the wind when the Vero river reaches Alquézar, one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. This fairy-tail medieval town is built on top of a rocky mountain overseeing deep canyons.

The challenge you have to face to obtain AIR is to follow the spectacular route of footbridges known as Pasarelas de Alquezar. A walkway hanging off the mountain wall that crosses the canyons. You will feel like a goat of Guara and experience the wind’s incredible force.

Are you ready for the challenge? Of course you are, go ahead!

Did you know the freezing wind of this region encouraged a priest to become the great inventor of two very popular varieties of almond known as “Desmayo” and “Largueta”? In Alquézar there is a place named in his honour. Wil you be able to find it? You can ask the friendly locals of Alquézar to help you find it.

If you have succeeded and found the 4 elements... Congratulations! The Nature of Guara Somontano is yours.
