Stage 3: Biel - Villalangua

This is probably the best stage of Sierra de Santo Domingo. A very spectacular and long trail getting into a privileged natural area full of deep and narrow ravines, rocky ridges, deep forests and peaceful prairies. A wonderful journey through a wild no man’s land where forgotten trails continuously give us beautiful panoramas.

We will leave the monumental village of Biel climbing to the hill of Fayanás by the shady Barranco de Panigua, where we’ll cross the stream of pristine water several times. Then, a beautiful path going through a deep pine forest leads to a firewall before taking Paco de Lisán trail ending at Fardollas Refuge. Later, a trail ascends towards the prairies of Campo Fenero where we connect with a path leading to the sharp rocks of Peña de los Buitres.

After, we head towards the meadows of Collada de Garrén and Amata Fountain before taking the trail leading to Mirador del Fayar and Farrihuelo Refuge.

From Farrihuelo Refuge we head towards Corral de Grasa where after a short climb by gravel road we take the magic trail to Col De la Osqueta from where we descend to Villalangua passing by the misterious uninhabited village of Salinas Viejo and the spectacular and overwhelming limestone walls of Foz de Salinas.

Type of itinerary: One-way trail
Estimated time: 9-10 h
Distance: 24,8 km
Surface: Path
Elevation: 980 m
Physical difficulty: Very high
Technical difficulty: Intermediate

This is a very long stage so you must start walking early in the morning. It might take about 9-10 hours. The trails are sometimes poorly defined and marked with paint, you must have an advanced level of GPS management. If you have no experience, we recommend you to hire a guide. Both Fardollas and Farrihuelo refuges are available to spend the night. There is little mobile coverage. There is only one accommodation in Villalangua so you must book in advance. There is only one fountain on the route, Fuente Amata, so you must carry enough food and drink.
